SA Urged to Curb Youth Mortality

Deputy director-general of Population and Social Statistics says health awareness programmes are needed in order to decrease youth mortality in the country

Deputy director-general of Population and Social Statistics, Kefiloe Masiteng, says health awareness programmes are needed in order to decrease youth mortality in the country.

Masiteng, whose comments follow Statistics South Africa’s report on morbidity and mortality among the youth of our country for 2013, says more young people are dying of HIV and Tuberculosis.

The report also shows that more young people’s deaths are violence related and more males are dying of unnatural deaths including stab wounds and gunshots.
