Tshikululu Report to Society 2008
Tshikululu Report to Society 2008
In more than a decade of comprehensive management of the corporate social investment (CSI) funds and trusts of premier South African companies such as Anglo American, De Beers, the FirstRand Group and Discovery (among others), the work of Tshikululu Social Investments has been reported through CSI reports in client publications. These are typically corporate annual, sustainability and transformation reports. During this time Tshikululu has managed R2 billion in social investment spend throughout the country through the funding of 15 000 projects on behalf of these clients.
Tshikululu Social Investments is pleased to release its first stand-alone Report to Society, outlining its work for 2008, the different developmental sectors that this work touches, and the considered way in which this not-for-profit and efficient model works.
Highlights from the report:
- Tshikululu Social Investments managed social investment funding of R467 million on behalf of clients during the year;
- Almost 1 200 funding grants were made after careful project and organisational analysis;
- A new Tshikululu lecture series was launched and Tshikululu undertook various training initiatives for NGOs;
- Tshikululu’s management fee averaged 10% of grantmaking, significantly lower than other donor agencies;
- Focus on how economic constraints will affect NGOs working in development during the next 18 months.
Tshikululu welcomes comments on the report and its work in general, as well as thoughts and suggestions on CSI generally and on corporate involvement in the South African developmental arena.
