Oh to live the life of a Dali
(not the Salvador surrealist one)
fleecing the public broadcaster
another one time over again
he with the sort of usual business
interests outside just in case

Oh to live the life of a Dali
not in a great hurry says he
to go out and find a job
like the some of us

Oh to live the life of a Dali
who apparently did not struggle
to be a peasant lowly or otherwise
at the back of the BEE queue

Oh to live the life of a Dali
finances nicely overseen
unlike that of our broadcaster
man-handled well by him

Oh to live the life of a Dali
no longer any cares in the world
no need to withdraw his labour
or to trash the boulevards in protest

(perhaps he will cruise the streets
like a certain terminally-ill ex-con)

The life of so many Dalis
belt-tightening not on the agenda
far removed from the sweaty public
or the modest life of Ahmed Kathrada

(as per our presidents birthday tribute)

So many Dalis created
in our own image
how many more
before we are liberated
from them all
