post-Mbeki, still
over HIV/AIDS
(and women and child abuse)

In denial we are
post-1994 sentiment
and the rainbow nation
(hand over a patriotic breast)

For the record
the colony is right here
with rituals and chains
and mandarins and first ladies
 
In denial we are
IMFed and World Banked
begging bowl and all
us and them economies
 
In denial we are
led astray by the promises
of man-made leaders
specifically selected

For the record
thrown off course
a-glitter with bling-bling
and the birthright to tender

In denial we are
the revolution not yet
televised daily images
in easy-to-believe installments

(The project unfinished
sidetracked, ruptured,
sabotaged some even say
for the easy route to power)

Diverted am I, by the little rumpus around and about Ms Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s giving the proverbial finger to the holy cows of (Nelson) Mandela and Archbishop Tutu, in a meeting, a conversation or an interview, whichever came first, 13-14 March 2010.
