IkamvaYouth is a by-youth-for youth South African non-profit organisation that equips high school learners living in under-resourced communities with support to pass high school and the knowledge, skills, networks and resources to access tertiary education and/or employment opportunities when they complete school.
High School learners (from Grade 8-12) have access to safe premises for self-driven learning with support from tutors who provide academic support. All our tutors, who are volunteers, are mostly tertiary students and many are ex-learners who have returned to pay-it-forward. The pedagogical approach aims to instill a culture of hard work, peer-learning, and responsibility.
IkamvaYouth also provides extensive support to learners in Grade 12 to access placements after-school. This includes ensuring that they apply to opportunities that they are eligible for, as well as career guidance support in the form of workshops and advice.
IkamvaYouth has branches in over 15 communities across 5 provinces; KZN, EC, WC, NW, and GP and are supporting over 2,500 learners.
IkamvaYouth has committed to develop and expand a Collaborative Community Programme (CCP). The CCP is a growing network of after-school programmes currently in the Western Cape and Gauteng, where members are provided with knowledge, skills, and resource-sharing opportunities. CCP aims to increase the number of high impact, sustainable tutoring programmes in South Africa. CCP is looking to grow its footprint to other provinces reaching more communities and collaborating with more partners.
If you are interested in becoming a member of this community you can get involved in one of two ways:

Implementing Partner: Implementing partners enter into a formal agreement with IkamvaYouth. In addition to free access to all training and seminars offered, these partners receive hands-on support from the CCP team, to assist with growing and developing their organisations, and providing high quality programmes to their learners.

Trained Partner: Trained partners are partners of the wider collaborative community implementing after-school programmes. IkamvaYouth provides training to these organisations, with which there is no formal programme implementation agreement. However it is expected that they apply their training to their after-school academic support programmes and share data to track and monitor collective impact.
Who should apply?
*The following criteria need to be met by any organisation wanting to receive intensive training and support:

Be a registered NGO/non-profit

Have been working with a consistent group of 20+ high school learners

Have a track-record of some consistent quality service/programme provided for at least one year

Have at least 1 full-time person or a committed founder/co-founder who has been involved in the programme for at least one year and is committed to making the programme work

Have a collaborative mind-set and dedication to learning, capacity building and team and wider community development

Align closely with the core values of IkamvaYouth [2] of integrity and openness, collaboration, paying forward, and a commitment to learning and impact.

Be an emerging community-based organisation or a more established organisation looking to improve, grow, or change its tutoring model.
