Attention: Civil Society Organisations
 
In its six years of its establishment the Civil Society Forum (CSF), a formal advisory body of South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) that facilitates the participation of civil society organisations (CSOs) in the implementation of South Africa's National Strategic Plan on HIV, TB and STIs, has noted a skewness in the funding of CSOs, based on proximity to donor, size of the organisation, race and ethnicity.
 
The CSF notes that the value of civil society in advancing HIV, TB and STI programmes in communities, especially at grassroots level is noted and well documented. However, the capacity of CSOs has not been harnessed because of resource constraints. As an entity that promotes inclusive, competent and responsive civil society and provides political oversight on the coordination of the National Strategic Plan on HIV, TB and STI: 2017-2022, the CSF has commissioned this survey to assess the funding landscape that may be a hindrance in equity, reach and sustainability on the work of CSOs.
 
We call upon South African CSOs (also referred to as NGOs, NPOs, CBOs or social enterprises) to participate in the survey so that the CSF can be informed on the current state of funding and the funding transformation of the non-profit sector in South Africa.
