Themba Interactive is a NGO that focuses on providing informative and experiential interventions to school going, out of school youth, university students and offenders.

Themba Interactive has two departments; the Theatre Company (actor educators) and the Facilitator/Trainer department.

Themba Interactive seeks to appoint a HPCSA registered Drama Therapist to work alongside a dynamic team of Facilitators within a prison based context for a period of five months full-time. This position is based in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Engage in rigorous self-reflection and self-supervision;
  • Engage in group supervision on site at Themba Interactive in addition to external clinical supervision;
  • Engage in administrative tasks relevant to the project such as attending meetings, project planning and report writing.

Requirements:

The candidate must display the following as per the HPCSA Drama Therapy Scope of Practice

  • Master’s in drama therapy and complete monitoring and evaluation forms after processes;
  • Master’s degree in drama therapy from an accredited institution;
  • Proof of HPCSA registration;
  • In-depth knowledge of the working methods of Drama Therapy in particular those which may be applied to the prison context;
  • In- depth knowledge of the clinical framework of Drama Therapy practice;
  • Knowledge of Applied Drama and Theatre practice and where the intersection of Applied Drama and Theatre and Drama Therapy may work to the benefit of a project/process;
  • Minimum of one year clinical and community based work experience;
  • HIV/AIDS, Diversity and human rights knowledge;
  • Good communication and co-ordination skills;
  • Good listener who is flexible and is willing to facilitate processes without being judgemental;
  • Self-reflexive attitude.
