Star For Life (SFL) - Southern Africa is a non-profit making organisation whose mission is to inspire young people to value learning, acquire the knowledge and skills they need for productive work, and live healthy and meaningful lives.

The Project is based on universal approaches, where a school has been identified as one of the most suitable sites for an intervention that address challenges facing young people that include health education and promotion.

Star For Life through a grant from PEPFAR (U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) seeks to appoint an energetic and passionate Health Coach, based in Windhoek, South Africa.

Responsibilities:

  • Discuss HIV risks, rejects myths about HIV transmission with young people;
  • Encourage safer sex strategies;
  • Discuss and link to locally available HIV counselling and testing services available;
  • Work with the parents and community to raise awareness about HIV risks for youth and improve adult-child communication about sexuality;
  • Educate on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC), HIV care and treatment ad TB testing and treatment;
  • Promote condoms: how to use, negotiate, where to get them, and improve access;
  • Discuss harmful norms relate to sex and gender, reduce stigma and discrimination associated to HIV;
  • Prevent gender-based violence, promote gender equality.

Requirements:

  • Degree level credential in HIV/AIDS, psychology/ social work or any social science related field;
    Two years' experience in similar work. Good communication skills and be willing and able to conduct oneself as an integral member of the Star for Life team;
  • Good time management skills to meet deadlines, self-driven, working with
    minimal supervision, paying attention to detail;
  • Strong values and principles;
  • Demonstrate a positive and friendly attitude;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Valid code B driver’s licence.
