The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is a vibrant, community-oriented non-governmental organisation.  As the largest African mental health advocacy and support group, SADAG has been an active first line of support for those in need of support, counselling and education regarding pressing mental health issues for 20 years. Like all responsible NGOs, SADAG has consistently sought to evolve through thorough examination of existing and newly developed interventions. As such, a well-established, empirically focused research internship is presently on offer to suitable candidates.

SADAG seeks to appoint a full-time Research Intern, Sandton, Gauteng.

This is a fixed-term of six months following trial period.

Responsibilities:

  • Programme evaluation of projects across diverse environments (varying from township to office contexts);
  • Patient adherence research;
  • Telephone help line evaluation;
  • Speaking books assessment;
  • Specific research activities: research design, questionnaire development, sampling, recruitment of sample, data collection, data capturing, analysis and writing of final reports;
  • Proposal writing.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree in Psychology, Sociology, Public Health or associated field;
  • Own transport and Code 8 driver’s licence;
  • Ability to work in diverse community environments;
  • Excellent report writing and multi-tasking abilities;
  • Previous experience in community-based intervention research, action research or programme evaluation would be an advantage.

Remuneration: To be negotiated and determined according to the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
