Sonke Gender Justice
With a full-time staff of 90 people working from offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Agincourt, Sonke works globally, and especially across Africa, to strengthen government, civil society and citizen capacity to take action to promote gender equality, prevent domestic and sexual violence and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS. In this way the organisation contributes to the development of societies in which men, women, youth and children can enjoy equitable, healthy and happy relationships that contribute to the development of just and democratic societies.
Sonke Gender Justice seeks to appoint a Intern for its Communications unit, based in Cape Town.
This is a six month stipended internship.
The successful candidate should be a well-organised, energetic, hard-working intern, with a keen interest in communications, strong writing skills, and a good understanding of media liaison functions, data management, media monitoring, administration and reporting to support the Communications Unit.
The Intern will work with Communications Unit manager, who will be the candidates line manager and mentor during this internship. The intern will work full-time during office hours.This is an excellent learning opportunity for an individual who is interested in learning more about communication for social change, media liaison and monitoring.
- Correspondence, tracking and reporting;
- Materials Management;
- Administrative Support;
- Content and Documenting;
- Media Coordination;
- Donor relationships, reports and proposals;
- Website / Database Support;
- General administrative assistance.
- University degree in media, journalism, public health, gender or related field, or equivalent experience;
- Minimum of one year experience in journalism, or working in a communications unit;
- Proven writing skills;
- Strong understanding of office administration and use of spreadsheets or reporting tools.
