Population Services International - Lesotho seeks to appoint a Communications Manager, based in Maseru, to oversee the design and implementation of PSI/Lesotho’s health communication activities, including both branded and generic media and interpersonal communication.

The Communications Manager reports to the Technical Services Advisor and supervises the Communications Officer.

Responsibilities:  

  • Serve as PSI/Lesotho’s technical expert on health communication, gathering, analysing, and disseminating current research and best practices from Lesotho, the region, and beyond.
  • Design and facilitate implementation of annual marketing plans and all step-down documents, including Communicate to stakeholders communication priorities, including behavioral determinants, target groups, and communication strategies, determined through marketing planning process.
  • Work with program staff to design all branded and generic communication activities, including those employing both mass media and interpersonal communication as channels.
  • Prepare illustrative budgets for communication campaigns and programs to support budgetary decision-making by programme managers.  Manage Communication budget.
  • Collaborate with Research department to design and implement effective pre-testing strategies for all mass media and interpersonal communication activities.
  • Oversee the work of technical specialists

Skills and qualifications required:

  • Degree in Marketing, Communication, or related field essential. Post graduate degree strongly preferred.
  • At least five years relevant experience in social marketing or health communication essential
  • Experience working for an international NGO preferred.
  • Familiarity and practical experience with both interpersonal communication and mass media approaches essential
  • Clear understanding of current best practices in mass media and different types of IPC programming strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of HIV/AIDS as a public health issue preferred.
  • Experience in the management of staff essential
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office essential
  • Drivers license preferred.
