Civil Society Submission on Revised Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Conduct
There are currently three initiatives underway within government that have profound implications for the sustainability of the civil society/NPO sector. These are: proposed amendments to the NPO Act, to the Lotteries policies, and to the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Codes. CAF Southern Africa is preparing submissions on all three initiatives and is inviting endorsements from interested organisations and individuals.
The first submission we have completed is to Minister Rob Davies in the Department of Trade and Industries (DTI).
If the proposed new B-BBEE Codes do indeed replace the existing Codes, they have the potential to seriously compromise the ability of most civil society organisations/NPOs to benefit from corporate funding. In view of the fact that our sector is already struggling with diminishing funding flows, we need to work together to ensure that these proposed Codes are not promulgated.
CAF Southern Africa urges you to join this campaign. Please endorse the submission here by sending an e-mail including your name, designation and organisation to Lumka Bovungana at firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to: 011 334 0580.
