Opportunity type:
Employment

James House Child and Youth Care Centre runs two pioneering residential treatment centres for adolescents (age 14 - 16) with frequent challenging behaviour.

James House seeks to appoint Relief Workers for both the girls (Plumstead) and boys (Hout Bay) programmes, to support the organisation's current staff team.

Working with teenagers with challenging behaviour is demanding, both physically and emotionally. James House is looking for male and female candidates who are not only highly motivated and dedicated to the work we do, but who are also excellent team players and communicators. Successful candidates will be able to provide clear and consistent boundaries to our teenagers, whilst also developing warm and nurturing relationships.

Relief workers are required to work day and/or night shifts, depending on their availability. The organisation understands that relief workers may have other commitments. Relief workers have access to the same training, supervision and development opportunities as our permanent staff.

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and either isiXhosa or Afrikaans (essential);
  • Post-matric qualification or FET in Child and Youth Care;
  • Driver’s licence (Code 08);
  • Counselling skills and/or experience.

To apply, submit a CV and a motivational letter to the Administration Manager, Kaashifa Hoffman, email: kaashifa@jameshouse.org.za or fax to 021 790 0928.
