Greenpeace is actively working in South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal; the countries with the most urgent environmental issues – climate change, over-fishing and the destruction of the all-important rainforests - issues that affect the entire continent.
Greenpeace Africa seeks to appoint a Policy Advisor, based in Johannesburg, with regular national and international travel.
The person will report to the Campaigns Director.
As a member of the Programme Team, the purpose of this position is to develop and maintain a high level of understanding of developments in the field of environmental policy and legislation in Africa. This is in order to provide advice on political, legislative and business components of campaign projects in line with organisational aims, objectives and campaign requirements, currently focused on promoting forest protection in the DRC and the Congo Basin, preventing fisheries exploitation in West Africa, and developing an energy revolution in South Africa to fight climate change.
As such the position involves:
- Effective engagement with key national and regional stakeholders;
- In depth analysis of current developments;
- Effective contribution to achieving policy change.
