The Sexual HIV Prevention Programme (SHIPP) in South Africa is a flagship bilateral project of USAID and aims to measurably boost HIV prevention efforts and outcomes by building the national, provincial, and district leadership capacity of the National Department of Health (NDOH), Department of Basic Education (DBE), and South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) to fulfill constitutionally mandated planning, coordination, and implementation responsibilities. Its key partners include the University of the Witwatersrand Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (WRHI), the Centre for AIDS Development, Research, and Evaluation (CADRE), Engender Health and Futures Institute.

Engender Health works to improve the health and well-being of people in the poorest communities of the world. It promotes gender equity, advocate for sound practices and policies, and inspire people to assert their rights to better, healthier lives.

SHIPP and EngenderHealth seek to appoint Technical Officer – Seconded to the District Aids Council (DAC), based in Gauteng.

Responsibilities:
  • Work across the health and education sectors and across jurisdictional levels;
  • Function alongside permanent government staff and will be responsible for daily on-the-job learning, coaching, and mentoring to build SAG ownership of leadership tools and approaches;
  • Support the implementation of SHIPP project activities and ensure high-quality implementation of HIV prevention initiatives at national and district levels;
  • Coordinate technical support and capacity building across the team of seconded staff at their assignment location;
  • Train and mentor the permanent staff at the assigned institution or organisation, to build the leadership capacity of relevant government and community stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Degree in social sciences or related field;
  • Minimum of three years experience working in a similar position;
  • Experience working with government and non-government organisations will be preferred;
  • Expertise in respective technical area of assignment;
  • Familiarity with HIV prevention, district health system and education programmes;
  • Experience in community development;
  • Experience with capacity building and development of grantees;
  • Experience working with grantees to ensure project compliance.
