Chemonics seeks experienced long- and short-term specialists for an anticipated USAID-funded project that will aim to support and build public sector capacity to promote the care of vulnerable children. All positions require work and travel throughout South Africa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. We are looking for professionals for the following positions:

Program Director

  • At least ten years of experience working in social welfare programs in South Africa, with at least three years of experience working specifically in programs to support vulnerable children.
  • Experience working to strengthen social/children welfare systems desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and coordinate effective working relationships with government, civil society and private sector stakeholders.
  • Extensive senior management experience required. Minimum of five years of experience as a program manager in social welfare. Experience in management of USAID and/or international donor-funded programs desired.
  • Advanced degree in social sciences or related field.
  • Must have the ability to travel extensively throughout South Africa and to other locations internationally and regionally as required.

Deputy Program Director

  • At least eight years of experience in program management and planning, particularly with programs to support the public sector and programs to support vulnerable children.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large, complex program and ability to oversee programming across technical disciplines.
  • Advanced degree in social sciences or related field.
  • Must have the ability to travel extensively throughout South Africa and to other locations internationally and regionally as required.

Director of Finance and Administration

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in a managerial position in the public or private sector (preferably with knowledge of, and experience in social welfare and/or international development) in developing and/or transitional countries.
  • Expertise in accounting, financial planning and management, procurement and other management support functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large complex program. Experience in managing grants programs desired.
  • Knowledge in and experience with USAID procedures and policies, and US Government Auditing standards preferred.
  • Degree in accountancy, finance, business administration, organizational management, or full ACCA, CIMA or CPA qualification.

  • Coordination and networking of OVC services
  • Institutional capacity building and/or organizational development
  • Gender
  • Public-Private partnership development
  • Communications and advocacy
  • Monitoring, evaluation and/or operations research
  • Social Welfare workforce strengthening
  • Grant Management
  • Policy development

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in field relevant to the position to which applying
  • A minimum of five years of experience working in field relevant to the position to which applying
  • Prior USAID program experience desired
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • English language proficiency required
