City Year South Africa is a national youth service programme that unites diverse groups of young people for a year of voluntary service and leadership development.

City Year South Africa seeks to appoint a Site Leader, based in Johannesburg.

S/he will act as the custodians of City Year’s youth programme. S/he is primarily responsible for ensuring that Service Leaders carry out their service obligations to the community, as well as for their overall well-being and development.

S/he will report to the Service Leaders and the Site Manager.

Job Grade: B Lower

Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with the Site Manager to determine the schedule for the service activities: organise the weekly and monthly activities of Service Leaderss in line with the those activities agreed upon by the Site Manage, and determine with the Service Leaders how the activities will be undertaken in agreement with the Site Manager;
  • Ensure that Service Leaders undertake the agreed upon service activities: support the team to carry out their tasks; assist the team to address issues as they arise; ensure that the team has the necessary resources to carry out their tasks; monitor the activities to ensure that they are carried out to acceptable standards as determined by the Site Manager;
  • Address any issues, in consultation with the Site Manager, that may arise in the course of implementation: raise concerns with the Site Manager where problems arise when undertaking service activities; report to the Site Manager where there appears to be the need to change the nature of the service activity;
  • Ensure that Service Leaders undertake the different components of the programme and are able to reflect on the manner in which these different parts are integrated:
  • join the team and participate with them when they attend life skills and technical training; hold reflective sessions with Service Leaders to facilitate learning.

  • Knowledge of youth service, youth sector and citizenship;
  • Ability to define boundaries

  • Ability to connect with young people
  • Emotional control,
  • Team player;
  • Maturity and leadership.
Entry level Site Leaders will be trained in the required knowledge competencies but they are expected to have the cognitive ability to understand and apply the concept of integrated learning.
