Gordon Institute of Business Science
5-9 November | ABCD: The Fundamentals
A certified training co-hosted by Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), University of Pretoria, South Africa & Coady International Institute, St Francis Xavier University, Canada
The last few years have seen a wave of momentum around the asset based approach to stimulating social and economic change in South African communities.
This international certificate programme will provide an opportunity for you to learn principles, tools, and case studies to shift your organization’s focus – from an emphasis on community needs and problems to one that understands and recognizes the assets, strengths and opportunities within the community.
What is ABCD?
Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) is an approach that focuses on the resources and strengths of communities, rather than needs and deficiencies.
The Coady Institute has done foundational work in developing frameworks and tools which can be adapted to help communities mobilise and build on their assets for sustainable development.
By the end of this five-day course participants will be able to:
- Understand the core principles that differentiate citizen-driven development
- Adapt and apply tools for communities to identify and mobilise their own assets
- Identify ways in which the principles and tools of asset-based and citizen-driven development can be applied in your communities or organizations
