The Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA) in association with the South African Association of Political Science (SAAPS) will host the Gauteng Young Scholars Symposium on 28 and 29th September 2009, at Burgers Park Hotel in Pretoria.
This event is titled “The role of the youth in the 21st century: Emergent Trends”. The symposium will focus on both theoretical and applied research focusing on youth issues, with a specific relevance to opportunities that enhance their contribution to the African continent in the 21 century.

If you are a young scholar, based in Gauteng Province in South Africa, whose work is focused on African issues and are interested in contributing to research and policy debates on the role of the youth in the 21 century in Africa, especially in view of Africa’s aspiration for integration on the global stage, you are invited to submit your abstracts (of no more than 500 words) for consideration. The focus of your abstract should slot broadly into one of the below outlined themes. Those selected to make presentations at the symposium will be required to prepare and submit a complete paper ahead of the meeting.

Those whose abstracts will be accepted will hear from the organizers by the end of July 2009. The organizers will meet the participation costs to the symposium for participants presenting papers.

Deadline for abstracts: 15th July 2009
Deadline for full papers: 31 August 2009
