African Men for Sexual Health and Rights [AMSHeR]
African Men for Sexual Health and Rights [AMSHeR], one of Africa's biggest coalitions for the health and human rights of men who have sex with men/lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender [MSM/LGBT] persons, is looking for a new Finance Manager.
AMSHeR is a coalition of LGBT organisations formed to provide a response to the grave human rights violations faced by LGBT people and the disproportionate way in which HIV affects men who have sex with men (MSM) on the continent
AMSHeR works through advocacy, information sharing, coalition building, networking, and exchanging advocacy tools and strategies within other movements including those that fight against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and HIV/AIDS status primarily in Africa but also around the world.
AMSHeR seeks to appoint a Finance Manager, based in Johannesburg.
The Finance Manager is responsible for running the organisation’s finances and financial reporting. Specific responsibilities include implementation of financial policies, and procedures, and financial advisory support to strategy development processes. The Finance Manager would undertake general accounting work, ensure financial compliance, manage financial reporting, manage sub-granting processes and support audit preparation. This post also includes contributing to resource mobilisation activities, and supporting company secretary functions.
Suitably qualified candidates should have experience in a middle level financial management. This should include extensive work on using and running financial systems, ensuring compliance, maintaining accurate records and reporting against general good accounting practice. Experience with complex project based finances is necessary, including multiple reporting requirements. Knowledge of company secretarial functions is an added benefit, and knowledge of the donor environment is essential. Experience in managing grant-making activities and non-profit sector resource mobilisation would be a distinct advantage. Some experience of in the HIV/AIDS and MSM and LBGTI sectors or development sector would be an advantage. The post is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
