The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) is a well-respected organisation that exists to support local, national and regional efforts to reduce new HIV, STI and TB infections, address the social and structural drivers of HIV, remove the barriers to the realisation of sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and build resilient communities.
AFSA is looking for a Psychosocial Project Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of activities aimed at strengthening psychosocial support for CLWHIV and ALWHIV. The position will be based at either the Durban or Pietermaritzburg AFSA Offices. Candidates must have the ability to work in a fast paced and high pressured environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the implementation of Case Finding and Case Management in eThekwini and uMgungundlovu district.
- Strengthen referral linkages within the health systems, especially between DOH AFSA supported facilities, CBO’s and AFSA.
- Oversee the implementation of AFSA uMngani children and Adolescent Case Management Model and the national adherence strategy.
- Provide support to Case Finding and Case Management personnel.
- Ensure the teams have a weekly and monthly schedule of areas to cover.
- Ensure that all clients screened positive for: HIV, mental health and Gender Based Violence receive care and support immediately
- Assist in identifying capacity needs for the AFSA supported facilities team.
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly progress reports to Program coordinator.
- Participate in partnership strengthening meetings within the districts.
- Ensure proper keeping of all documents in secure lockable cupboards
- Diploma (or higher) in: social sciences, community development, social studies or related fields.
- 10 day certificate in HIV counselling and testing.
- Experience in working with DHIS, HPRS and Tier.net.
- Aptitude for community mobilization and capacity building.
- Two or more years supervising community health programs.
- Experience working with HIV, TB and malnutrition patients and families, at community level.
- Valid and unendorsed driver’s license.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of HIV prevention, sexual reproductive health, gender mainstreaming into HIV and AIDS programming
- Can work independently and self-motivated
- Good knowledge of basic IT skills (email, Internet, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Fluent in both Isizulu and English
