Centre for the Advancement of Community Advice Offices in South Africa (CAOSA) is a national organisation that supports the delivery of legal and related services through Community Advice Offices in locations where poor, marginalised and vulnerable people are based, in languages they speak and in an accessible meaningful way, so that they can realise their constitutional rights. The organisation is committed to building a strong voice for the Community Advice Office (CA0) sector, building the capacity of its practitioners, and enabling them to provide quality access to justice to the marginalised communities. 

CAOSA seeks to appoint Accounts Manager to be based in Johannesburg.

Report to: The Director


  • Assist the Director with strategic planning, operational management, fundraising, company secretarial duties etc
  • Assist the Director in the recruitment process, disciplinary and grievance procedures and all matters relating to conditions of employment for admin and support staff
  • Prepare financial overview reports for inclusion in organisation’s annual report
  • Develop where necessary and maintain accounting/financial systems and accounting / financial policies for the organisation and advise the Board of Directors on appropriate systems and policies and ensure that these are in compliance with legal requirements
  • Assist programme staff and management in preparation of funding proposals and budgets
  • Prepare multi-year operational budgets by consolidating program budgets and plans into organisational budget
  • Prepare and present management accounts including Cash-flow projections to Management for Board of Directors’ meetings
  • Prepare financial reports for funders based on grant agreement requirements and submit to the Director
  • Monitor all expenditure and ensure that it is either according to approved budgets or correctly authorised as additional approved expenditure
  • Monitor payment of salaries and ensure all deductions are accurate, paid and reconciled
  • Prepare all financial information for audit, liaise with auditors and supervise annual audit
  • Negotiate contracts and lease agreements related to office functions and submit to the Director


  • Bachelor’s Degree / equivalent in Financial Management or Accounting
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in financial and/or administration management preferably in an NGO environment
  • Computer literacy
  • Excel skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the Pastel accounting system
  • Communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Ability to independently plan, manage, work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to think conceptually, analytically and strategically
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and manage teams and foster teamwork
