The Youth Bridge Trust (YBT) is an innovative organisation, based in Johannesburg. The Trust aims to create opportunities for young people to be successful in the workforce, develop livelihood skills and further their education, through partnerships and collaborations. The Trust has a regional focus and is developing programmes and partnerships throughout Africa. As a grant-making body rather than an implementing entity, the Trust funds grantees whose programmes and projects align to the vision and mission of the Trust.
Key areas of Impact/Focus:

Youth Bridge Trust focuses its efforts to youth between the ages of 15 to 35 that live in rural and urban areas. The Organisations areas of focus are namely:

  • Youth Entrepreneurship
  • Youth Livelihood skills
  • Youth Work readiness programs
  • Connecting youth to further educational opportunities

Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to conduct an impact evaluation to assess one of the programmes that Youth Bridge Trust funds:
Fit for Life, Fit for Work is a development programme for youth between the ages of 18 and 30. The Fit for Life, Fit for Work programme provides participants with skills, knowledge and positive attitudes to effectively compete in the job market. The programme aims to reduce risk taking behaviour through improved economic prospects, heightened sensitivity to sexual and reproductive health and rights issues and enhanced self-esteem.
The Fit for Life programme has been successfully implemented for the last 10 years by Youth Bridge Trust grantees in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, Nwa’mitwa in Tzaneen and Etafeni and Vrygrond in Cape Town and Windhoek in Namibia
Scope of work

Youth Bridge Trust is looking to conduct an impact evaluation study of the Fit for life fit for work programme, over the last 10 years to assess whether the programme has achieved its intended objectives. Experienced impact/measurement and evaluation organisations are encouraged to submit proposals for the body of work that we anticipate will take 8 to 10 weeks. Scope of work will include the following:

  • Liaise with Management regarding methodology and framework of impact evaluation
  • Assess and evaluate current Monitoring and Evaluation reports for all sites in order to conduct impact study
  • Liaise with sites to assess Monitoring and Evaluation reports
  • Conduct impact evaluation across all sites to assess whether the programme has achieved its intended objectives
  • Conduct implementation evaluation to assess whether the programme can be expanded and replicated
  • Compile preliminary and final impact evaluation reports

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only legally registered organisations and consortia of registered organisations, not individuals, may apply
  • Each proposal must be submitted by a single organisation
  • All data and products from the study will be open access to the public

Submission guidelines

All submitted proposals should include research methodology, project plans and detailed budgets. Please submit all proposals to no later than 23:59 GMT, 8 March 2019.
