The Trauma Centre for Survivors of Violence and Torture is a Cape Town-based non-governmental organisation that utilises inclusive evidence-based healing processes to address psychosocial needs of survivors of violence and torture.
The Trauma Centre seeks to appoint an Operations Manager, based in Cape Town.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Monitor financial procedures undertaken by the financial administrator
- Procure goods and services for the organisation within budget and procedure at competitive rates, quality, and terms
- Process authorisation for purchases and generate purchase orders
- Source and secure product donations
- Provide regular narrative and financial management reports together
HR and Office Administration
- Source applications and conduct interviews for junior positions
- Manage the orientation of new employees
- Advise management on work matters, career development, personal problems
- Counsel employees on policies and rules relating to employment policies and programmes
- Manage employee attendance, leave periods, work-flow and output
- Review practices to ensure statutory compliance
- Document and provide relevant input regarding conduct and misconduct of employees
- Assist with the investigation and processing of disciplinary cases and grievances
- Manage probationary reviews, employee evaluations and terminations
- Provide advice and information to management and employees on HR policies and procedures
- Manage frontline administration
- Manage data bases and filing systems
Organisational Effectiveness and Leadership
- Drive initiatives in the management team and organisationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence
- Contribute to short and long-term organisational planning and strategy as a member of the management team
- Assist in proposal writing
- Assist the organisation with their media and social media presence (FB, Twitter, Instagram) and on-line content (website and e-newsletter)
Requirements:
- Driver’s license
- Fluent in at least two South African languages
- Sympathetic and empathetic towards people
- Commitment to the social mission and the development of sustainable and humane disadvantaged communities
- Experience in fund raising
- An enthusiastic willingness to work over-time and on weekends from time to time
- Computer skills and proficient in (Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups.
- A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
- Interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style
- Communication skills both verbal and written
- People manager, open to direction and collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
- Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance to the organisation
- Delegate responsibilities effectively
