Project Preparation Trust of KZN (PPT) specialises in the preparation of pro-poor development projects. The eThekwini Upgrading Partnership Programme which was recently approved by the European Union (EU), with co-funding provided by eThekwini and PPT. The three-year initiative will strengthen the institutional arrangements, systems, capacity and methods necessary for scaling up incremental upgrading and making it more participative, partnership-based and effective. Pilot projects will be utilised to test and mainstream new approaches.

PPT seeks to appoint a three Area Coordinators for the informal settlement upgrading partnership programme, to be based in Durban. 

Salary: R 328 453 to R 409 400
Start date: June 2018
Duration: Fixed term contract

The purpose of the position is to implement participatory planning and stakeholder coordination for incremental upgrading and pilot project delivery


  • Undertake community level participatory planning and sustained engagement in assigned local areas by means of communication with local communities
  • Undertake communication with key municipal departments and other spheres of government in order to ensure planning and budget alignment in respect of essential services provision by means of preparing, attendance and inputs at municipal upgrading forums including the
  • Incremental Services Technical Forum (ISTF)
  • Support delivery of pilot projects within assigned areas
  • Facilitate improved area level planning by means of helping develop better incremental upgrading plans at area level
  • Undertake reporting, learning and teamwork by means of developing quarterly reports on work undertaken for projects and municipal purposes
  • Report to the project steering committee and Project Preparation Trust (PPT) as managers of the European Union (EU) upgrading partnership programme
  • Undertake site inspections attending community and ward committee meetings in order to understand opportunities and site constraints and to keep communities abreast of developments
  • Undertake related assignments and projects 


  • Matric/Grade 12 plus relevant certification accredited by SAQA
  • Valid motor vehicle drivers’ license (Code B)
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant experience
  • Computer literacy
