Financial Analyst & Pricing Business Partner

m2m is looking for experienced senior finance professionals for key roles as Financial Analyst & Pricing Business Partners (FAP-BPs) to work in a multi-disciplinary country management unit.  Successful candidates will support and advise the organisation by providing expert budget development, award management guidance, and financial and process analysis in support of m2m’s operations in sub-Saharan Africa.

The FAP-BPs require broad knowledge of administrative and managerial techniques, and awareness of and ability to be responsive to business environment complexities as the work is carried out in a constantly changing environment involving collaborative relations with specialists across disciplines.  Advance planning and preparation is key, as well as the ability to respond to new requirements on extremely short notice.

Key Performance Areas:  
Country Programme Financial Analysis and Management Support (25%)

  • Working closely with Senior Programme Directors and in-country staff on:
  • Management and oversight of the country office operational budget
  • Analyse information needs at country level and design and maintain reporting tools on an as needed basis and run and interpret reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Coordinating and supporting the management of forward looking pipelines at the operational budget, award, and project level
  • Supporting Country Finance Managers with financial analysis to be presented at monthly and quarterly country management team meetings
  • Generate and interpret financial reports to support country office and organization-wide decision making
  • Facilitate the preparation and analysis with the Country Finance Manager of the monthly and quarterly country office and project/award level report packs
  • Support project start up and close-out activities

Project and Award Management (25%)

  • Working closely with Project Directors on various projects/awards:
  • Analyse award spending trends
  • Ensure that all transactions and revenue are correctly recorded recognised for each award
  • Collaborate with Grants and Compliance to ensure that all award restrictions are met
  • Ensure successful financial close-out of awards
  • Work with the Corporate Financial Analysis Services Unit to maintain the integrity of the award financial management system
  • Support the preparation and timely submission of donor financial reports

Reporting and Analysis (25%)

  • Working with Senior Programme Directors:
  • Support various organisational units or project teams with financial data analysis and reporting, as and when required.  This may include:
  • Ad hoc report design and maintenance
  • Using multiple sources to conduct trend analysis to analyse and substantiate data or recommendation
  • Presenting data and/or analysis at various levels within the organisation including Senior Management and where required the Board
  • Analyse the impact of operational changes and provide the cost implication of redesign, adjusting budgets in accordance with changes
  • Work with Senior Managers, Country Directors and Senior Programme Directors to prepare project and operational scenarios and bids for proposals and new programmatic areas
  • Support Business Development and Finance Department teams to bring together financial and activity information
  • Engage with Human Resources to lead an integrated workforce report

Pricing and Proposal Development (25%)

  • Working closely with Business Development and Resource Mobilisation Teams and Country Leadership:
  • Review tender/bid documentation to identify and advise on cost proposal instructions and technical requirements with cost implications
  • Provide support to the Resource Mobilisation units to develop and prepare complex cost proposal in response to the requirements of the donor
  • Prepare supporting documentation for long- and short-term cost proposal submissions, including budget narratives, certifications, financial information, etc.
  • Participate in budgetary negotiations with subcontractors/grantees with guidance from technical staff
  • Support the development and maintenance of cost and pricing models for proposals
  • Support the development and maintenance of cost and pricing models for products and implementation modes
  • Support the fundraising teams with ad hoc money-buy requests for fundraising purposes
  • Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications and experience

  • Honour’s Degree in Business Management, Auditing, and/or Accounting
  • CIMA/CA or an equivalent post-graduate degree/diploma, required
  • Five years’ Post Qualifying Experience in a financial role, required
  • Experience in the life-cycle of NGO financial management, including proposal pricing, budgeting, analysis of expenditures and projection/pipeline reporting, and project start up and close out, strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of institutional donor requirements (i.e., CDC, EC, DFID, SIDA, UN agencies, SIDA, and USAID, etc.) preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills (i.e., macro development, analytical functions, pivot tables, etc.) required
  • Advance accounting and budgeting software experience required
  • Advanced experience using various reporting tools preferred
  • Portuguese speakers encouraged to apply

  • Ability to communicate clearly at all levels with clarity and precision both written and verbally to a finance and non-finance audience
  • Ability to rationalize work, delegate tasks, apply advanced systems to simplify work and negotiate systems improvements, propose solutions to make best use of staff, and financial resources
  • Must be able to adapt and be comfortable to work in a matrix-managed environment
  • Proven knowledge of and experience with electronic financial and business information systems
  • Previous experience in a multi-national non-profit organization at head office-level preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work on own and within various teams
  • Ability to manage competing tasks; ability to prioritize and produce high level output consistently
