Joint Aid Management (JAM) is a South African founded humanitarian nonprofit organisation that works to empower Africans to create better lives for themselves.
JAM SA seeks to employ a Bookkeeper, to be based in South Africa.

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for multi-currency petty cash and foreign payments and support management in order to achieve department goals. To handle responsibilities such as data input, reconciliations and special requests. To deliver timely responses and services to Joint Aid Management.


  • Administer Monitor and Handle:
    • Local Rand Petty Cash
    • Foreign currency Petty Cash
    • Foreign payments and transfers
    • Trip control accounts
  • Scrutinise source documents for completeness, accuracy and validity of charges
  • Investigate errors and take appropriate corrective accounting actions
  • Prepare disbursement vouchers to replenish imprest accounts
  • In terms of cash books:
    • Liaise with relevant banks and carry out necessary administration to order, transfer, receive foreign currency and petty cash monies
    • Liaise with banks and with regard to foreign currency T/T queries
  • Reconcile petty cashbooks on a regular basis and maintain adequate records of this
  • Respond to queries from staff members and third parties
  • Keep up-to-date on documents/reports/guidelines that have a bearing on administrative matters, ensuring compliance with decisions as well as with organisational policies and procedures
  • In terms of reporting, on a monthly basis, the following reports should be prepared:
    • S and T monthly allowance report
    • JAM Air
  • File and archive documentation as required
  • Maintain the necessary good filing system
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Work implies frequent interaction with all JAM Departments and staff members
  • Work collaboratively with team members 


  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • Certificate/Coursework/Training in accounting, finance or directly related fields highly desirable
  • Minimum of five years of solid bookkeeping experience
  • Ability to organise/schedule work effectively, handle multiple tasks and to work well under time constraints
  • Passionate about JAM’s vision

  • Highly motivated and energetic, with a drive and sense of urgency
  • Must follow the Christian Faith and be committed to upholding Christian values and the reputation of the organisation as a Christian organisation
  • knowledge in the use and application of the organisation’s financial regulations and rules as well as accounting policies and practices
  • Knowledge, skills and ability to extract, interpret, analyse and format data
  • Demonstrated use of initiative and ability to make appropriate linkages in work processes and anticipate next steps
  • Familiarity with the department’s operations and objectives
  • Organisational skills and ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan
  • Ability to work under pressure and cope with deadlines
  • Commitment to continuous learning, Initiative and willingness to learn new skills
  • Computer literacy Microsoft office, Hands on experience with Excel. Proficiency in various spreadsheet and word processing applications a plus.

  • Written and spoken communications skills, ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to provide detailed explanations orally
