The South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP) is a non-profit organisation working with children and youth at key points in their education, including pre-school, primary, high school, post matric and tertiary.

SAEP seeks to appoint a Bookkeeper / Accountant, to be based in Cape Town.

This is a part-time position

Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping:
    • Daily capturing of bank and petty cash
    • Collection and filing of supporting documents and bank statements
    • Setup of payments
    • Deposit donations
    • Allocate transactions according to donor requirements
  • Ensure that finance policy and procedures are adhered to
  • Manage and administer petty cash and store accounts
  • Calculate mileage and staff obligations (e.g. private use of organisational resources), and enter relevant transactions
  • Create invoices and ensure payments are received
  • Attend to donor audits
  • Capturing donation in Salesforce
  • Create Section 18A tax receipt
  • Manage payroll
  • Manage VAT submissions
  • Handle any SARS related issues and queries, as needed
  • Assist Finance Manager in drawing up the annual budget
  • Provide support to the Finance Manager and the fundraising team, as required

 Requirements:

  • Degree in Financial Accounting or related field
  • Computer literacy, especially excel knowledge
  • Experience in financial accounting for nonprofit organisations, as well as understanding of challenges faced by nonprofit sector
  • Communication and writing skills in English. Second SA language is a bonus
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Self-starter and can work independently
  • Professional work ethics, sound organisational skills, personal integrity, neat, forward thinker, resourceful, problem solver, reliable, honest, self-disciplined, accurate and attention to detail
  • Financial understanding and structure
  • Team player, good communication and networking skills
  • Planning and time management, and ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is an advantage
  • Knowledge of SARS efiling and e@syfile
