This is a call for renewal of the South African NGO sector pledge and activism; it is a call to begin the long journey of re-uniting and revitalizing NGOs to reclaim their rightful place in the ongoing democratic project. We have to come out of this process with clear tasks for a strong, vibrant and dynamic NGO sector.
As South Africa enters a critical period of democratic consolidation, emerging from a difficult decade of assault on our hard warn liberation, which deferred our dreams, we equally enter a new dawn of NGO revival and renewal towards taking a resolute stand for progress and in defence of our democratic project. The NGO sector must rise and be counted as we forge towards the revitalization of a post-apartheid promise.
Following our call last week, for the first consultative forum to kick-start our renewal journey. The first forum will take place in Johannesburg, 29 March 2018, and the venue will be announced in due course.
This is a consultative forum of national NGO Sectors and networks which will be a one-day meeting, we are expecting about hundred (100) delegates to kick-start this process.
The forum is aimed at:
- Opening the debates, discussions and exploration of the form and character of the revitalized and unified voice of the NGO Sector in South Africa;
- Contributing ideas, positions and strategies towards the national NGO Week / Indaba for the relaunch of the national platform and voice of the sector;
- Developing common platform and pledge towards the revival of the coordinated NGO sector in South Africa.
We have received some encouraging responses since last week, and you are further requested to submit suggestions and ideas towards the consultative forum 5th March 2018 to enable development of the draft programme.
All national NGO sectors and networks are invited to this inaugural consultative process.
Confirm your participation by sending your organisation contact details and your representative by the 13th march 2018 to: Kenneth Thlaka email@example.com
