Democracy Works Foundation (DWF) analyses the health of democracy and implements innovative interventions and technologies in order to foster inclusive development through a deepening of democratic culture and capacity whilst ensuring sustainability and independence of its operations.

Demoracy Works seeks to employ a Programme Manager, to be based in Johannesburg.

Salary: Cost to company, commensurate with experience

This is a Fixed term contract position programmme ends in September 2020

The purpose of The Programme Manager to organise and coordinate the USAID Regional Political Party Strengthening Programme (RePPSP). S/hewill  support Management in providing strategic guidance to teams and project managers in ways that promote the company’s culture and that facilitates smooth execution of the programme consistent with donor and country specific requirements. S/he will also provide support in overseeing the progress of operations in all locations of the project

Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all activities of the programmme in accordance with donor contract
  • Analyse trends in the programme, identifying issues and developing and recommending solutions
  • Support Country Directors and Country office staff design and carry out the needed policy monitoring, research and analysis in their areas of work
  • Develop and implement change management plans using program and project review findings
  • Support the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all activities of the programme in accordance with donor contract
  • Analyse trends in the programme, identifying issues and developing and recommending solutions
  • Guide and coordinate the development of organisational annual plans and budgets
  • Complete required reports in a timely and organised manner, including but not limited to monthly, mid-year, and end-year reports, and annual reviews
  • Ensure adherence to terms of funding agreements, including project deliverables
  • Provide technical guidance in program planning and implementation
  • Ensure alignment of annual plans and budgets to USAID strategies and priorities
  • Share and disseminate programme plans and budgets within the organisation

Requirements:

  • Post Graduate diploma in political science, international relations, or related field
  • Minimum of six years of directly related work experience in the NGO sector 
  • At least four years’ proven experience on USAID funded projects at programme management level
  • Demonstrable experience in democracy and human rights fields
  • Strong problem solving and leadership skills
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel and Word)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, and undertake regional travels
  • Self-motivated, team player and pays attention to details
  • Ability to work with less supervision
  • Ability to prioritise in a fast-moving environment
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of different people in a variety of situations
  • Must be a South African citizen or permanent residential
  • Have a driver’s license valid from South Africa
  • Strong leader and have experience in managing staff of different disciplines and diverse cultural backgrounds to produce results in a timely manner
  • Ability to develop efficient strategies and tactics
