Earthchild Project (ECP) operates in under-resourced schools in the Western Cape. Working with children and teachers, our educational programmes provide practical skills that compliment the academic curriculum with a focus on life-skills, healthy living and the environment.  We are present in 8 schools in Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill, working with over 3000 children. ECP aims to inspire a new generation of confident, conscious and responsible young leaders.

Based in Cape Town, Earthchild Project seeks to appoint a


Reporting directly to the board, the Ops Manager will oversee and organise the work of all organisational operations, ensuring smooth operational coherence and a high standard of functioning within Finance, Human Resources, Administration, Programme Delivery, Monitoring and Evaluation, and day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Working collaboratively with the Board, the Managing Director and the ECP team to develop ECP’s strategy
  • Supporting the Programme Managers in contracting with schools, teachers and volunteers and in managing the termination processes of same
  • Ensuring the smooth implementation of all ECP programmes, providing leadership and management to the operational team
  • Developing and implementing administrative systems and processes to support the implementation and tracking of programmes
  • Ensuring proper record management and filing (electronic and/paper based) of all ECP records, including donor, HR, Finance and administrative records and reports (electronic and paper)
  • Managing the operational finances of ECP, including expenditure and payroll
  • Establishing and improving policies and oversee their implementation and revision
  • Managing all required human resource administration, including:
    • Contracts, benefits, time & attendance, leave, staff safety and staff development
    • Develop and oversee staff performance management system and process
    • Working collaboratively with the MD & full team to develop evaluation framework/system for all ECP programmes, aligned to ECP strategy
    • Implementing monitoring system & work collaboratively with MD

The Operations Manager must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Relevant degree in Business Management, Development Studies or a related field or proven experience in same
  • At least 8 years in increasingly more responsible operations management positions within the NGO environment
  • Experience in donor-funded environment is essential
