Landscape Analysis of the current and potential Role South African Faith-based Organizations (FBOs) and Traditional Structures play in increasing demand for HIV Services.
FHI 360 is an independent non-profit organization serving in more than 70 countries, committed to resolve critical social problems throughout the world. Its mission is to improve lives in lasting ways by advancing integrated, locally driven solutions for human development. FHI 360 was awarded a five-year, USAID-funded Capacity Development and Support (CDS) program to develop the organizational management, technical capacity and sustainability of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and South Africa Government (SAG) departments, to sustain an improved, expanded and country-led response to HIV and AIDS.
FHI 360 seeks proposals from South African service providers to conduct a landscape analysis of faith-based organizations (FBOs) and traditional structures engaged in the HIV response in South Africa. The landscape analysis will review existing structures and networks, capacity and capabilities that FBOs and traditional structures can leverage on to mobilize demand for antiretroviral therapy (ART), actively link PLHIV to ART support ART adherence and retention, and increase demand for HIV services, particularly in the 27 high-priority districts (narrowing down to the 10 top districts with highest ART gap). The key background information is needed to inform strategic decision-making regarding the design of interventions to leverage FBO and traditional structures to actively link PLHIV to ART services, influence social norms, and mobilize demand for HIV services.
Competencies and Experience
FHI 360 expects to receive applications for this scope of work from established consulting/research based firm or consortium of technical specialists. In addition, the service provider must:
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge on community based HIV programs and the district/provincial/national response
- have access to sufficient numbers of qualified primary data collectors and analysts who are able to meet the targets within the specified contractual timelines.
- must have good working relationships with the National and Sub-National Government structures and communities in South Africa.
