Afrika Tikkun is an international nonprofit organisation that provides education, health and social services to children, youth and their families through centres of excellence in South African Townships. Its aim is to empower communities to develop new generations of productive citizens.

Afrika Tikkun seeks to appoint a ECD Principal to be based in Western Cape.

Provide the instructional leadership:

  • Monitor and support instructional activities, participate in and provide staff development
  • Have knowledge of the curriculum and evaluate the instructional practices of the ECD Teachers/Practitioners


  • Communicate the vision of the school to all stakeholders
  • Be an active listener
  • Maintain professional cooperative relationships. Provide opportunities for two way communication between school, parents and the community

Manage the Children in the ECD Centre:

  • Provide activities to involve the children in all aspects of Early Childhood Education
  • Monitor attendance
  • Maintain guidance, and Health and Food services for the children
  • Provide Leadership and Management of the Facility and Staff
  • Assist with the recruitment, training and evaluation of all staff
  • Motivate and provide a positive work environment
  • Develop a master schedule for planning and oversee the implementation


  • Maintain records of the children including health records and photographs
  • Ensure that governmental health and safety regulations are maintained
  • Ensure that the ECD is hygienic and that the children are safe and healthy


  • Ensure that the correct children are attending the Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme
  • Manage the daily activities of the ECD programme
  • Manage the transport of the children
  • Ensure that the daily routine is maintained
  • Ensure that there are sufficient materials, toys, stationery and food for the children
  • Arrange and facilitate Parent Committee and Parent meetings
  • Arrange outings for the children
  • Arrange an annual graduation ceremony for the children
  • Determine exit points and solutions for children in transit
  • Network with other NGO ECDs and staff from the various governmental departments to ensure that standards are maintained


  • Manage any donations received and allocate effectively
  • Arrange fundraising efforts for school fees of children in transit

Human Resources:

  • Sign up ECD teachers and staff on voluntary service agreements
  • Develop, implement and train staff on educational programmes and activities


  • Provides feedback to the General Manager
  • Draw up reports on the children attending the ECD and the details and statistics of their home circumstances


  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Educational Qualification
  • NQF Level 5 (ECD)
  • Diploma NQF Level 6 (ECD) – would highly advantageous
  • Two to three years as an early childhood development practitioner
  • Previous experience in a management role would be highly advantageous
  • Strong administration ability and attention to details
  • Ability to engage at all levels of society
  • Ability to be proactive

  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Decision making skills
  • Computer literate particularly with Excel
  • Numeracy and communication
  • Project planning and management (advantageous)
