Focus on the Family Africa is a nonprofit organisation that focuses on serving families in Africa since opening its doors in 1992. For over 23 years, we have been providing care, advice, support and encouragement to families at every stage of life. We have worked hard to respond to the many real issues families face and to provide sound and practical guidance based on Christian principles.

Focus on the Family Africa seeks to appoint a Homework Programme Tutor to be based in Hillcrest, Durban.

Start Date: March 2018

Duration: Part time position (three hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Manage positive relationships with seveun care points
  • Contribute to the development of the homework programme (curriculum, activities, worksheets)
  • Support and mentorship for orphans and vulnerable children in the homework programme
  • Lead Discipleship activities with orphans and vulnerable children in the homework programme
  • Serve as a primary facilitator and driver for the homework programme and be required to travel locally
  • Provide monthly, quarterly programme statistics, reports and feedback 

Requirements:

  • Retired teacher / Matric with higher grade passes in accounting, mathematics, English and sciences
  • Experience of not less than two years in teaching / tutoring / management of a community based project
  • Participation in social & community responsibility and ministry work. Involvement/leadership in outreach programmes and activities in communities
  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • Communication skills, verbal and written
  • Administrative skills and comfortable to work at all levels in the organisation to achieve organisational goals
  • A working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability and willingness to multitask and maintain a high quality of work
  • A professional level of personal presentation is mandatory
  • Time management ability; and the willingness to travel
  • A valid driver’s license
