Save the Children South Africa is a child rights movement, and a politically and religiously unaffiliated non-governmental organisation. Save the Children South Africa is a member of Save the Children International, fighting for children’s rights in order to deliver immediate and lasting improvements to children’s lives worldwide. SCSA aims to increase good quality response processes and management of Violence Against Children (VAC) occurrences. In order to achieve this the Child protection App was developed. The Child Protection App was developed with the intent to improve/increase reporting and also strengthen child protection systems in South Africa.

Purpose and objectives
A Child Protection App has been developed and has not been tested or used by the target group (Children and Child protection service providers). Hence, a pilot phase of the App is required to ensure that the App is relevant and useful to the target group. This means further improvements on the dashboard and the app will be required in order to meet the needs of both children and service providers. A service provider will be required to assist in the 9 month pilot phase. Provide support, make necessary adjustments and modifications to the app and dashboard throughout and configure the final dashboard and app.
Specific objectives of the consultancy:

  • Mobile and web based App development/ modifications on existing App
  • Deployment (upload and launch the application on Google Play Store and Apple istore)
  • Hosting of application
  • Maintenance and support (9 month Pilot)
  • Reporting
  • Training

Scope of the consultancy

The scope of the consultancy will include (but not limited to):

  • Support to Save the Children and partners during pilot phase.
  • Development/ modification to existing application (iOS, android and web based) 
  • Maintenance of application
  • Conduct training for Save the Children and Partners 

Project Management

The Consultant, or team of consultants, is responsible for management of the project. The Consultant(s) will liaise with Save the Children South Africa throughout the process, providing regular updates on the (design and implementation) of the consultancy, and seeking their input and advice where necessary. The Consultant(s) will report to the Programme Director.
Save the Children South Africa is responsible for overseeing the Consultant by managing the consultancy contract; monitoring adherence to specified deadlines; facilitating access to required information, resources and contacts (when appropriate); providing feedback on drafts of the APP.
Required Skills and Experience

The prospective consultant(s) should possess the following as a minimum:

  • Mobile and Web based App Development
  • Piloting real time experience
  • Community development
  • Willingness to sign and abide by Save the Children’s child safeguarding policy.

Duration of the Assignment and Agreement
The assignment is expected to take a maximum of (12 months) to complete. A detailed timeframe will be agreed with the selected Consultant(s).
Please a submit 3 page proposal that includes a budget, timelines and proposed plan of action.
