SA Partners seeks to appoint a Human Resource Practitioner to be based in Johannesburg.

The Human Resources Practitioner is responsible for the administration, coordination and execution of the day-to-day delivery of a full range of Human Resources services.

Supervisor’s Title: country Director/ Deputy Director

Duration: 100% Full Time, Fixed Term Project

Travel Required: 10%

Responsibilities:

  • The HRP oversees the ongoing revision and development of Human Resource Policies in the organisation.
  • The HRP initiates and assists with recruiting processes, including employee on boarding.
  • The HRP administrates all compensation determinations and benefit administration, as well as facilitating and supporting performance management, training, policy development, wellness, and employee relations. 
  • Policies and Procedures
    • Participate in the drafting and mapping of Human Resource and synchronisation with other policies and processes, such as the Accounting Policies and Procedures
    • Ensure compliance with the policies, including regular staff updates and interventions
    • Liaison with Line Managers on policy and staff adherence matters
    • Ongoing development and update policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines as needed, including annual review of Employee Handbook
  • Payroll, Compensation and Benefits Administration
    • Provide monthly updates for payroll administration
    • Loading of new employee recruits and updating of Staff Master workbooks including
    • Liaison with benefit service providers for database and billing updates
    • Leave administration and reconciliations for all leave
    • Monthly updates of salary and CTC reviews
    • Staff terminations and staff attrition administration
    • Knowledge and support of payroll activities with the Financial Officer
  • Recruitment and Selection/HR Planning
    • Implementation of the overall recruitment strategy, as determined by the executive in line with SA Partner’s in country human resource needs
    • Liaison with recruitment agencies, NGO Pulse portal, potential candidates and any other possible psychometric testing bodies and organisations forming part of recruitment processes
    • Administer the posting of job recruitment needs and the coordination of responses, selection screening and interviews in line with organisational needs and as directed by the CD / DCD
    • Vetting and final verification of qualifications, accreditations and necessary clearances as determined for credit and criminal checks
    • Ensure that the filling of vacancies is in compliance with Employment Law
  • Organisational Development for Human Resources
    • Coordinate and conduct job analysis, profiling and job evaluation in line with valid compensation management and recent survey research – as and when required
    • Assist managers in drafting, revising and updating staff’s job descriptions and ensure functional alignment
    • Facilitate the grading and alignment of positions within the organisation
    • Support management by providing counsel and developing solutions to routine and complex human relational issues
  • Performance Management and Development of Staff
    • Manage annual performance appraisal process
    • Assist Senior Managers in the development and alignment of SA Partners performance management in line with the Organisation and various Programme objectives
    • Advise management and staff on the use of performance management system
    • Assist Senior and Project Managers in ensuring that SA Partner’s performance management system is properly linked to HR management, succession planning as well as other aspects of the projects / programmes
  • Talent Management
    • Assist the Managers in ensuring that staff have Personal Development Plans and are operational where applicable.
    • Assist Managers in mapping career-path and succession plans for their staff
    • In conjunction with managers, identify critical skills required and those staff who would be considered for promotion
  • Training and Development
    • Perform skills audit and ensure that training needs/gaps are identified and appropriate intervention provided
    • Source and coordinate training to meet required needs based on budget availability
    • Prepare Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training reports for submission to a SETA (if this is going to be a requirement)
  • Employee Relations
    • Assist SA Partners in promoting sound employer/employee relationships within the organisation
    • Advise and assist staff on Labour Relations matters
    • Support staff and line management on disciplinary and grievance matters within policy and procedural guidelines
    • Provide counselling to staff and where necessary refer them for professional advice/support
    • Coordinate employee wellness programmes – personal health and financial support as needed and within structured processes with support from service providers and broker organisations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Human Resources/ Industrial Psychology
  • At least four years’ experience in a HR position
  • Experience in integrating Human Resource issues into organisational strategy and operational needs
  • Well-developed skills in report writing and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration
  • Proven ability to establish strong partnerships with senior managers and operate successfully at a senior management level
  • Demonstrate initiative, creative thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution and effective communications skills
  • Communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills and ability to analyse and present data in a highly organised manner
  • Self-starter who can work well independently, but also deliver as a team player

  • Ability to travel when necessary within South Africa
  • Driver’s license essential
