The Brien Holden Vision Institute develops new solutions for vision care, especially refractive error, and work to eliminate vision impairment and avoidable blindness, thereby improving quality of life for people in need and helping to reduce disability and poverty. 

The Institute seeks to appoint a Project Development Officer to be based in Durban.

Duration of contract: One year


  • Liaise with project partners and monitor their progress in executing their responsibilities
  • Coordination of all project activities and reporting process on a monthly basis
  • Ensure all documentation from the project partners meets expected requirements
  • Ensure the project’s alignment with administrative requirements within the organisation
  • Track the grant spending and perform   quarterly reconciliation with the finance department
  • Be the liaison between all   the project partners and the Institute
  • Play a leadership role in the implementation of all the project activities and contribute to the delivery of the project’s various components such as;
  • workshop facilitation
  • Partners meetings and minutes
  • Contribute to the development of research protocols
  • Contribute to the execution of the various researches
  • Conduct systematic analysis is the DOE/DOH’s Integrated School Health Programme Policy (ISHP)
  • Contribute to the research reports write ups
  • Be the key liaison with the various project partners and stakeholders
  • Provide any other necessary support as needed


  • B.A. Hons degree in social sciences or health sciences with a minimum of 5 years working experience, a Master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of five years’ relevant work experience, two of which must in a management role
  • Track record in project management and stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge of the South African NGO and development sector as well public sector functioning such as DoH, DoE
  • Excellent planning, communication, networking and inter personal skills
  • Sound understanding of conducting various types of researches
  • Solid writing skills for various audiences such as reports, research protocols, research articles
