The Cape Town Refugee Centre (CTRC) is a South African nonprofit, non-government organisation that works with vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers. We strive to improve the quality of life of refugees and asylum seekers by meeting their basic needs on a short-term basis, and enabling them to become self-reliant and self-sufficient through various empowerment opportunities. 

Cape Town Refugee Centre seeks to appoint a Finance Manager to be based in Cape Town. 

Start date: 4 September, 2017

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation of programme and operational budgets
  • Implement financial policies and procedures
  • Prepare and record transactions properly into the computerised accounting system
  • Maintain cash controls including deposits and donations
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger
  • Reconcile and account for grant and funding income
  • Prepare and reconcile bank statements
  • Establish new and maintain existing supplier accounts
  • Process supplier invoices
  • Load payments to suppliers using EFT
  • Maintain financial files and records
  • Submit staff deductions and related transaction for payroll processing
  • Participate in financial planning and maintains financial records, notes, plans, and reports
  • Ensure that funders’ records, notes, plans, and reports are maintained confidentially
  • Direct financial administration as determined and approved by the Executive Director
  • Ensure that there is no financial risk
  • Coordinate, arrange and monitor financial controls
  • Submission of monthly plan, monthly income and expenditure and annual budget and its activities, editing and submission of monthly, quarterly, six monthly and annual financial reports to the funders
  • Effectively manage the organisation resources
  • Conduct organisation day to day accounting records
  • Accurate financial records for auditing purposes
  • Management of accounting information to support efficient management of the organisation resources
  • Credit control management
  • Asset management
  • Ensure that service providers are paid on time including staff salaries and organisation fixed accounts
  • Oversee daily financial operations and long-term financial planning
  • Developing the processes, reports and guidelines needed to build and maintain the financial health of the workplace and coordinating finance department staffing
  • Develop and monitors budgets, and prepares or directs the preparation of income statements, balance sheets, financial summaries and forecasts
  • Oversee the functions and staff members in accounts payable and accounts receivable

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree/Diploma in business administration, finance, economics or accounting with five to seven years’ experience as a financial administrator/manager
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and practices, along with the ability to perform thorough financial analyses are required
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented professionals with strong analytical, communication and accounting skills
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements relating to business finance at NPO sector
  • Knowledge of auditing techniques to help ensure the organisation financial operations remain in compliance
  • Computer proficiency that includes spreadsheets, presentation, word processing and reporting software, Pastel payroll, QuickBooks, Excel spreadsheet
