Ekupholeni seeks to appoint a Fundraising Manager to be based in Johannesburg.

Reporting To: The Executive Director 

Responsibilities:

  • To recruit and secure new long term donors for the organisation
  • To ensure that the organisation has the financial resources to deliver on its mission and vision
  • The post-holder will do this by working with stakeholders and donors/funders across the organisation to ensure that challenging fundraising targets are met, that our contractual obligations with donors are adhered to with strong stewardship of these strategic relations, and that new donors are brought on board
  • Coordinate all types of fundraising including statutory, private sector, trusts, and mass audience
  • Develop compelling proposals, and provide strategic support and direction for organisational and programme fundraising1 Developing fundraising strategies 
  • Take forward and develop an organisation-wide fundraising strategy including tactics for raising unrestricted income
  • Advise and assist the Executive Director in devising and implementing fundraising strategies for the organisation programmes and specific projects
  • Contribute to strategic and annual planning processes having ownership of the fundraising part of the overall process
  • Raising income and coordinating our fundraising and reporting 
    • Assist all teams in planning, writing and editing funding proposals to comply with the organisation fundraising guidelines and standards, paying particular attention to our accountabilities and ensuring that applications meet donor guidelines.
    • Develop and improve the effectiveness of the organisation-wide oversight, monitoring and
      coordination of fundraising and reporting
    • Inspire potential supporters to sign up for a regular monthly donation, by credit card or direct debit
    • Ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is maintained on all submissions, grant-funded projects and donors in relevant databases and filing systems
    • Assist the organisation in improving its programmes for fundraising purpose 
    • Work with the Executive Director to ensure that funding proposals comply with the organisation fundraising best practice
    • Coordinate cross-programme funding and reporting arrangements, acting as the lead person, setting plans and organising meetings
    • Ensure that donor reports meet requirements and contracts, and that they are of a high standard and submitted on time working with the quality manager
    • Take the lead in developing the organisation capabilities to enter into service level agreements with funders
    • Produce up-to-date reports for fundraising report for Executive Director

Requirements:

  •  Knowledge of fundraising best practice
  •  Knowledge of donors that support work in our sector (for e.g. DFID, EC, USAID, UK trusts and foreign ministries
  •  Understanding of working on issues of conflict resolution (desirable)
  •  A relevant second language (desirable)
  • Knowledge of understanding and accountable for achieving daily goals or targets (in terms of quantity and quality), in accordance with agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Knowledge of answering questions about the organisation product knowledge, handling objections and using your talents to convince potential supporters of the value of their financial support
  • Maintain an understanding of the organisation programmes, campaigns and causes to be able to talk convincingly to potential funders about the organisation’s work. This includes keeping up to date with projects and news that affects the organisation and by participating in training, talking with relevant organisation staff, undertaking individual research, etc.
  • Matric, Relevant Degree, Diploma and Certificate
  • Own reliable motor vehicle with Driver’s license
  •  Significant senior fundraising experience within the NPO sector
  •  A proven track record of delivering fundraising success
  •  Successfully raised funds from major donors
  •  Experience of building capacity and sharing knowledge
  •  Proven experience of and ability to plan effectively at the organisational level
