Joint Aid Management (JAM) is a South African founded humanitarian nonprofit organisation that works to empower Africans to create better lives for themselves.

JAM seeks to appoint a Social Media Officer, based in Johannesburg.

The candidate will oversee social media communities and campaigns with responsibilities which include but are not limited to research, campaign and content creation, execution, monitoring and reporting. The goal is to gradually achieve superior customer engagement and intimacy, website traffic and revenue by strategically exploiting all aspects of the social media marketing roadmap.


  • Develop and implement JAM’s global social media strategy
  • Post to and monitor a range of social media accounts, simultaneously
  • Help grow social reach, engagement, and referral traffic
  • Spot social media trends, including new platforms and changes to existing ones
  • Brainstorm and generate search-friendly headlines and social-friendly copy with team
  • Write content that is suitable for various social media platforms
  • Responding to and addressing the community’s queries and complaints efficiently, professionally and timeously
  • Driving engagement and conversations with the community and ultimately establishing brand loyalty
  • Identify tactical and relevant opportunities to engage with client communities
  • Execute and optimise content during campaigns to ensure momentum and optimal visibility
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest trends within the digital and social media landscape
  • Execute social media competitions and collating entries
  • Compile weekly/monthly social media platform reports
  • Monitor effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of social media campaigns
  • Analyse, review and report on effectiveness of campaigns to maximise results


  • Time management and multitasking skills – ability to prioritise and track time
  • An in-depth knowledge, understanding of and proficiency on social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest, as well as emerging platforms, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Minimum three years’ experience fulfilling a similar role
  • Technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • MS Office
  • Experience in ORM and social media tools such as Sprout Social, Hoot suite, Radian 6 is an advantage
  • A thorough understanding of social media platform guidelines and policies
  • An understanding of copyright infringement and consumer privacy on digital platforms
  • Qualification: undergraduate degree/diploma (marketing, communications, English, media studies) 
  • Photoshop or any design programme an added advantage
  • Computer literacy is essential. An intermediate or advanced knowledge of MS office is required
  • Office administration and organisational skills
  • Written communication.
  • Passion for social networking, blogging and use of the internet
  • Preferable, ability to write very basic HTML code
  • Even-tempered, highly confidential individual
  • Team player
  • Independent worker
  • Must be willing to work overtime from time to time


  • English is essential
  • German is an advantage
