The Legal Resources Centre is seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Financial Accountant based in Johannesburg at the National Office.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist the Finance Director with the production of the annual budget
  • Maintain financial transaction records and information
  • Produce expenditure reports and regular detailed consolidated management accounts, including financial forecasts and financial narrative to assist the management team
  • Develop and implement core financial controls and systems
  • Produce core and programme income reports
  • Produce financial reports for funders and donors
  • Provide advice and assistance to colleagues with financial information to assist the development of funding bids
  • Control the balance sheet, including regional office bank accounts and provide cash flow forecasts
  • Monitor income and manage debtors, reporting to the Finance Director on any overdue debts
  • Produce end of year accounts and work with the auditors to produce final accounts
  • Creditors Ledger monthly reconciliation
  • Maintain the general ledger for the LRT and bring it to trial balance

Key competencies:

  • Provide analysis and advice on the organisation’s financial position
  • Ability to work well under pressure, independently and with others
  • Ability to network with partner organisations and donors
  • A commitment to strengthening public interest legal practice

Preferred qualifications and experience:

  • An appropriate accountancy tertiary qualification with at least 2 years accounts management experience
  • A sound understanding of NGO grants administration and contractual agreements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Office and SUN
  • Grant funding cycle and Project cycle monitoring skills
