Director: Institutional Advancement
Manage staff members of the department Institutional Advancement.
Ensure that staff members of the department perform optimally, develop themselves to the best of their abilities, master a variety of skills, and work cross-functionally.
Develop and implement strategies that are aligned with institutional priorities and goals in order to attract friends and funds to the University
Encourage a research-based, data-driven approach to university advancement.
Collaborate with the Head: Development and Fundraising, the Head: Alumni Relations, and the Senior Consultant: Advancement Special Projects, to assist in building and managing a comprehensive university advancement programme that includes, but is not limited to, identifying and cultivating prospects, as well as soliciting and stewarding donors.
Ensure that accurate financial reports are generated, that gift policies conform to all regulatory policies and that prospect research is performed.
Foster a culture of tradition and pride among alumni, staff and friends through activities and programmes that focus on service and leadership in the university environment.
Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate and steward new funding sources.
Measure the success of advancement and report to the Rector as appropriate.
Manage the department’s annual operating budget.
Partner with the Senior Consultant: Advancement Special Projects to help manage a range of specific project-related activities, many with specific fundraising goals and detailed budgets.
Partner with the department Marketing and Strategic Communication to create new engagements
Master’s degree with eight (8) years’ relevant work experience of which three (3) years’ should be in a managerial capacity, OR
Honour’s degree with ten (10) years’ relevant work experience of which four (4) years’ should be in a managerial capacity
Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s parallel-medium and richly diverse working environment.
Advanced computer skills, in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Effective leadership and management skills in order to establish good relationships with a wide diversity of alumni, staff, students and community members.
Good organisational, prioritisation, judgement and problem-solving skills
Experience in the higher education sector.
