MRC-UNISA Violence, Injury and Peace Research Unit (VIPRU)

 
The VIPRU is focused on improving the health status, safety and quality of life of the population through social science and public health oriented research aimed at preventing injury, death, disability and suffering arising from violence and unintentional incidents of injury.
 
A permanent position of Specialist Scientist is available and required to enhance VIPRU intervention research directed at the prevention of injuries and violence.
 
Requirements:
 
The candidate will have a PhD qualification in the social or public health sciences and a minimum of 3-4 years proven post-doctoral experience in safety and peace promotion.
 
Responsibilities:
 
The position is required to coordinate and implement priority prevention interventions at national and other levels and lead the coordination of complex intervention impact analyses, the production of internationally recognised scientific outputs, the supervision of MA and PHDs, contributions to national and international expert panels, and the generation of income.
 
Remuneration: This appointment is at a cost to company of R685 000 depending on qualifications and experience.
 
 The final location of the post, at either VIPRU’s Cape Town or Lenasia, Johannesburg offices is subject to business requirements.
