IkamvaYouth is a township-based volunteer programme that gets learners out of poverty and into university has once again shown that transformation is possible, despite the odds.

IkamvaYouth seeks to appoint a Community Collaboration Assistant, based in Cape Town.

This position would suit someone who thrives in exciting, challenging environments and who is eager to develop their understanding and knowledge of working in and with the non-profit sector. It is a recently created position and hopes to attract proactive and enthusiastic applicants who can learn quickly and take initiative.  

The Community Collaboration Assistant will work with the Collaboration Coordinator to deliver and develop the Community Collaboration Programme.

The Community Collaboration Programme is primarily a training, mentoring and support programme for after-school education organisations working with high school youth. By sharing IkamvaYouth’s tutoring methodology, best practice and expertise, participating organisations are able to improve their tutoring programme delivery, increase their impact, and ultimately access funding and resources to sustain this impact.  The programme also aims to foster interactions and connections between actors in the after-school and education sector more generally.


  • To assist the Community Collaboration Coordinator in organising training and support events and contribute to the design and delivery of these services to other after-school organisations;
  • Provide mentorship and programme support to between 2-4 after-school programmes working with secondary school youth in township communities in the Western Cape;
  • Ensure that the IY model is being implemented in line with minimum standards; attendance tracking and kick-outs affected, tutor and peer learning pedagogy, parents meetings;  
  • Work with database systems to ensure the collection of up to date and accurate data for M&E processes, reporting, fundraising, etc;
  • Consolidate termly reports  capturing attendance, report collection, test results for each implementing partner;
  • Create and maintain clear and up to date databases for contacts and information e.g. workshop partners, learning resources, service providers;
  • Work with the Communications Coordinator to develop the programme’s communication strategy and ensure quality external communication in line with media guidelines;
  • Assist with the building and maintenance of the organisation’s social media presence and audience engagement through various channels; social media, website, blogging, group e-mail discussion lists, newsletters, etc;
  • Maintain the content of the Zone website (IkamvaYouth’s online resource portal);
  • Assist with administrative tasks.


  • Minimum of three year degree and three years’ work experience  (ideally in youth development; project planning, implementation and management);
  • Exceptional communication skills; written and verbal to engage with a diverse range of people;
  • Experience of facilitating small groups;
  • A passion for and experience of using social media platforms and online communication for engagement and participation;
  • Highly organised and efficient;
  • Impeccable time management, data collection and reporting ability;
  • High level of attention to detail;
  • Ability to work alone,  take initiative, and problem solve;
  • Adept at using computers (Microsoft Office, social media, internet (some understanding of Drupal 7 is an advantage);
  • Ability to work virtually (many discussions, meetings  and document development occur collaboratively online);
  • A pro-active energy and an outgoing personality;
  • Driving licence and own transport; 
  • Fluent in English and isiXhosa or Afrikaans;
  • A willingness to travel.

Salary: R10 000 - R13 000 per month.
