iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centres
iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centres (iThemba) (PBO and NGO) have ten centres located in the City of Johannesburg and in Ekhuruleni. iThemba offers rape and trauma support counselling support programmes sponsored by the Department of Social Development and the Department of Community Safety.
If you are passionate about eradicating Gender-Based Violence in all its 'ugly' forms, here is an opportunity to serve an organisation that works in partnership with the SAPD and local communities to restore victims of rape and abuse to live dignified lives.
The board is constituted to have a maximum of 11 directors as volunteers and we are in need of 7 directors to replace those who have served their four-year term and those who have not made themselves available for re-election in August 2021.
Board duties: (Excerpt from the Constitution)
The management, administration and control of the affairs of iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centres (the "Society") and in particular without derogating from the generality of the foregoing include:
The raising of funds for the achievement of the Society’s objectives.
2. Power of Appointment
Subject to any restriction imposed or direction given at a General Meeting of the members to appoint for and on behalf of the members such agents, professional and administrative employees, voluntary counsellors, voluntary works, contractors, as may be necessary to achieve the objects of the Society.
3. Appointment of Sub-Committees
To appoint sub-committees and define their powers and terms of reference and to ensure that any such sub-committee shall have at least one member who is a member of the Board of Directors.
4. Purchase or Acquisition of Movable or Immovable Assets
To purchase, mortgage, pledge, cede, transfer, exchange, lease or otherwise acquire, dispose of or alienate any fixed or movable property of the Society to enable it to carry out its objectives.
5. Management of Society's Investments and Cash Resources
Deal with monies of the Society including the investment of funds in such manner as the Board of Directors may determine.
6. Legal proceedings
To institute, conduct, defend or abandon any legal proceedings by or against the Society or the Board of Directors.
7. Fees, Subscriptions and levies
The right to charge and determine fees, subscriptions and levies.
8. Financial records
To ensure that proper books of account are maintained, that financial reports are furnished quarterly to the Executive board and also that proper minutes of all the proceedings of meetings of the Board of Directors and of sub-committees of the Society are recorded.
To open bank accounts in the name of the Society and deposit all monies received into such accounts and make all payments on behalf of the Society by means of withdrawals from the said bank accounts. To open further separate accounts from the main account at the instance or requirement of the Department of Social Development or any other government department with which the Society has service level agreements (SLA). The bank accounts should have a minimum of three signatories which should include the Chairperson and the Treasurer.
To do all such things as the Board of Directors may consider necessary in order to achieve the Society’s objectives.
