Meet the people who publish content, organise our annual conference and other events, validate entries in our directories, provide technical support to NGOs, engage in various other organisational activities, and manage SANGONeT.
David Barnard – Executive Director
David Barnard is the Executive Director of SANGONeT since June 2000. Before joining SANGONeT, he managed the Programme for Development Research (Prodder) at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) (1992-2000), establishing the Prodder Directory as the most comprehensive publication on development organisations in Africa. He has published and contributed to more than 30 development publications. His areas of expertise include the role of the international development and funding community in Southern Africa, the role of the NGO sector in Southern Africa, corporate citizenship and the involvement of the corporate sector in development issues, and the contribution of information and ICT in support of development processes. He is a Founding Member of the African Institute for Corporate Citizenship (AICC), and an Advisory Board Member of the African Press Organisation. He is also a member of the ONE Africa Policy Advisory Board. In the past he served as a Board Member of the Non-Profit Technology Network (N-Ten), and on the Meraka e-Skills Institute Reference Group and the Presidential National Commission on the Information Society for Development (PNC-ISD).
David holds BA and BA (Hons) degrees (both cum laude) from the University of Stellenbosch, and has participated in management training at Cranfield University (UK) and City University of New York (USA).
He completed the 2010 Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon (250km) from 17-23 October 2010, the 2011 Sahara Race (250km) from 2-8 October 2011 in Egypt, the Namib Desert Challenge (220km) from 26-30 March 2012 in Namibia, and the Gobi March (250km) from 10-16 June 2012 in China as part of the annual SANGONeT "No Pain No Gain" fundraising campaign.
Arnold Ndifhedzo Netshambidi - Project Information Officer
Arnold is responsible for coordinating the updating of the Prodder NGO Directory. He also works on SANGONeT’s SANGOTeCH programme and the Mobile Agriculture Services for Africa Project. His past experience includes working for the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa), Centre for Development and Enterprise, and the Small Business Project. He holds a Diploma in Computer Skills from College for Computer and Business Education, Certificate in Database Design from the University of South Africa, Certificate in Office Administration from College Campus and a Certificate in Information Technology from IT Plus. He joined SANGONeT in January 2011.
Nomsa Nxumalo – Database Administrator
Nomsa joined SANGONeT in November 2006 as Database Administrator. She is responsible for various tasks relating to the Prodder NGO Directory, including validating entries, capturing information and overall Prodder administration enquiries. Her past experience includes working for Funda Community College as Personal Assistant and the South African National Anti-Discrimination Forum as Office Administrator. She holds a Secretarial Diploma and Office Administration. She is working towards completing her BA Communication degree
Adam Mukendi Ntala - Digital Media Manager
Adam Mukendi joined SANGONeT in 2009, and works as Digital Media Manager. He worked as Project Coordinator for the Citizen Journalism Africa project, co-managed by SANGONeT and HIVOS. He holds a BA degree in Law from the University of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. He also completed an Honours degree in Development Studies and holds a Certificate in New Media and Communications from the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). He is in the process of completing his LLB. He worked as a research assistant in academic research focused on development, Emthonjeni Population Centre, Noah Orphans, Africa Monitor and World Trade University Africa. He has worked in online advocacy for Congo Renaissance and other NGOs. Prior to joining SANGONeT, he worked in web and new media at the Global Call Against Poverty.
Butjwana Seokoma – Information Manager
Butjwana is responsible for updating the NGO Pulse Portal and compiling the weekly NGO Pulse e-newsletter. His past experience includes working for the Live Africa Broadcasting Corporation, National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (Language Portal Project) as well as the Government Communication & Information System (Batho Pele e-Gateway Portal) websites. He also worked as a volunteer at Mamelodi Community Information Services. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Limpopo, Postgraduate Diploma in Radio Production and a Web Design Certificate from the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa. He is currently studying towards a Masters Degree in Development Studies. He joined SANGONeT’s Civil Society Information as an Information Coordinator in January 2006.
Phumla Mhlanga – Information Coordinator
Phumla manages the NGO Pulse Premium Advertising Service, SANGONeT’s newest offering to the NGO sector and anyone interested in communicating with NGOs in South Africa. Her other responsibilities include updating the NGO Pulse Portal as well as working on the weekly NGO Pulse e-Newsletter. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She joined SANGONeT’s Civil Society Information in January 2011 as an Intern.
Dipuo Mahanyele – Receptionist
As SANGONeT’s receptionist, Dipuo is the first face you will see when visiting SANGONeT office the voice you hear when calling the organisation. Her previous experience includes working at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) in an administratiove capacity. Dipuo is currently studying towards a Diploma in PA and Administration and also bookkeeping. She joined SANGONeT in June 2006.
Emmah Ramadzulu – Office Assistant
Emmah helps around the office ensuring that all goes smoothly. She has been with SANGONeT since 2000. Emmah is responsible for ensuring that the office is always clean and presentable. She assists with the filing, faxing and general administrative work around the office. Emmah holds a Diploma in Office Administration and has a computer certificate.
