Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa is the formal professional Institute for the enabling of corporate governance and company secretaryship as well as a thought leader in Southern Africa on governance matters. CSSA is the professional qualifying body for Chartered Secretaries offering an international qualification recognised in more than 70 countries. The Institute offers a suite of exams, which prospective candidates must pass in order to become members. The career-long programme of study comprises attainment of professional qualifications and requires continuing professional development (CPD), which ensures that members remain at the cutting edge of developments.

Based in Johannesburg, Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa seeks to appoint an Assessment and Accreditation Manager
to maintain the quality of the institute’s assessment and accreditation processes.

Key responsibilities of this challenging senior position include:

  • Responsible for all quality assurance processes to do with examinations
  • Management of examination and moderation processes and procedures to the point where examination papers are print ready
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring assessment policies, systems and procedures
  • Selection of examiners and moderators and ongoing quality assurance of all examiners and moderators
  • Overall quality assurance of question papers and memoranda of all 18 subjects
  • Developing relationships with and monitoring of all tuition providers
  • Recruitment and accreditation of new tuition providers
  • Design the curriculum in Southern Africa according to the international curriculum review
  • Liaison with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) to ensure the qualification is reregistered
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the education field in order to keep the Institute informed
  • Liaison with all relevant regulatory bodies (SAQA, FASSET, QCTO, and DHET) as needed
  • Dealing with issues surrounding accreditation of CSSA as an assessment body
  • Managing the revision of CSSA textbooks and the introduction of new textbooks
  • Selecting relevant textbooks for each course in conjunction with the examiners and moderators
  • Ensuring syllabuses are updated
  • Ensuring all assessment and accreditation information on the website is regularly updated
  • Development and implementation of CSSA learnerships and accreditation of workplace providers
  • Selecting and liaising with presenters on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars

Applicants for the Assessment and Accreditation Manager must have:

  • An honours or masters qualification, ACIS, or FCIS
  • A B. Ed (hons) or M. Ed would be advantageous
  • Educational experience as an assessment manager, lecturer, course writer, preferably in a commercial or legal field
  • An excellent command of the English language – verbal and written
  • Ability to plan and organize and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to use own initiative, work without supervision (also as part of a team) and perform well under stress
  • Ability to communicate at all levels with tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • High level of work ethic and integrity
