Lawyers for Human Rights
Community Liaison Officer
The causes of xenophobia are complex and a reactive response to xenophobia when tension surges needs to be accompanied by longer term preventative interventions to address the root causes of dissension. For this reason, LHR is looking to hire two human rights activists who are experienced in community liaison work and able to speak at least two South African languages.
The successful applicants will be engaged in training community peacebuilding teams as a social cohesion strategy to foster dialogue between South Africans and non-nationals in Limpopo. They will also be involved in rolling out a civic education campaign as well as be involved in rights awareness events in Musina. Some travel to Gauteng will be required.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate – a passion for peacebuilding, a dedication to fostering conversation between South African and non-national communities and a talent for facilitating group discussions are essential.
Individuals with a background in law, trade unions, social studies, teaching or a related field are encouraged to apply.
The successful applicants will be based in Limpopo, Musina and the contract is for a period of 18 months.
To apply, please forward a CV and cover letter to Elias Mabena at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The letter should detail your interest in the position and organization and the qualities that you would bring to the post.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
