We are seeking a qualified candidate for a role to be based in Pretoria, South Africa to provide key financial support in the development and implementation of projects and Responsible for the accounting and financial management for the assigned County Office and projects.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of Program Budget with inputs from other departments: technical, admin and management
  • Review and monitor budgets and financial reports for all implementing partners (IP) sub-agreements, including approval for sub-awardee financial reports; Assess implementation partners financial management capacity and provide ongoing mentoring and supervision.
  • Design and lead periodic financial reviews of the implementation partners;
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of monthly financial reports  to the CD, FHI360 HQ, and/or donors;
  • Review and approve the monthly payroll and ensure timely payments of PAY to SARS;
  • Preparation monthly balance sheet reconciliation including bank recons
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors
  • Ensure accounting events are recorded and classified and consistent with the corporate chat of accounts
  • Provide support with FHI360 GFAS double entry accounting system and financial reporting packages;
  • Reconcile inventory on a monthly basis
  • Coordinate with Admin, programs and HR department to ensure proper awards, sub award and Office management
  • Supervise staff
  • Other duties as assigned by the CD and/ or Associate Director: Finance

Expertise and Complexity

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, budgeting and fiscal control theory and practices
  • Knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures or the ability to comprehend them
  • Budget monitoring and general ledger skills
  • Relevant software skills to include automated accounting software, database spreadsheets and Management Information Systems
  • Resourceful through technology, research skills and relationship building among several organization teams and units and professional organizations to resolve problems and initiate enhancements
  • Respond to inquiries independently and follow up on requests in an efficient manner
  • With minimal supervision, manage high volume of work flow efficiently
  • Handle financial and quantitative information with accuracy and precision; resourceful in gathering, verifying and analyzing financial data

Required Experience/Skills:  

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance or related field, and 3 -5 years combined experience in accounting/budgeting management or MS/MA/MBA with 3 -5 years combined experience in accounting/budgeting management.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, budgeting and fiscal control theory and practices.
  • Budget development skills with multi funding sources and general ledger skills.
  • Relevant software skills to include automated accounting software and database spreadsheets and Management Information Systems. 
  • Work independently with initiative to manage high volume work flow, may structure work of staff members.
