Position: Project Manager (full-time)
Location: Johannesburg
Responsible For: Oversight, supervision and management of the projects funded by Orange Babies
Reporting to: Project Manager - Orange Babies Netherlands

Orange Babies is a charitable foundation dedicated to preventing mother to child transmission of HIV and assisting children infected and affected by HIV and / or AIDS in Southern Africa. The Foundation has its head office in Amsterdam, with a satellite office in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Currently, Orange Babies funds projects in Gauteng, Limpopo and the Western Cape.

Overall Purpose of the position

The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the projects operate effectively and efficiently and meet or exceed their targets within budget. He / she is further responsible for all elements of monitoring and evaluation of the projects as well as fulfilling all reporting requirements and for being the primary interface between the Projects, Orange Babies and all its stakeholders.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the following programme areas:

  • Oversee the development, implementation of the project activities and ensure that they are in line with the initial proposals.
  • Assist in developing systems that will facilitate effective and efficient implementation of funded projects, where appropriate.
  • Ensure all projects have updated and well-defined targets and that outcomes and results conform with targets and budgets.
  • Provide advice and support to project managers in the performance of their tasks and responsibilities to achieve their targets, where appropriate.
  • Identify areas where he/she can assist with capacity building.
  • When requested, monitor performances, based on staff performance plan, & provide feedback on both strengths and weakness areas; provide guidance or action as needed.
  • Screen potential new projects to ensure that they meet the criteria of Orange Babies and prepare a motivation for submission to the Project Commission in Amsterdam.
  • Undertake appropriate actions in response to emergencies (when delegated by the CEO).
  • Generate semester reports (quarterly and ad hoc when the projects are not meeting targets).
  • Generate annual reports including financial reports pertaining to the projects.
  • Ensure that Orange Babies as well as the Projects are compliant with legislation.
  • Provide input on fund disbursement.
  • Advise on potential future growth within the project.
  • Manage the interface between the project and head office and arrange and oversee all interactions with, and visits to, the Projects.
  • Report internally to the Board of Orange Babies South Africa and management in the Netherlands as well as to funders where required.
  • Arrange all events associated with the projects.
  • Represent Orange Babies when required.
  • Distribute incoming donations to projects.
  • Assist in placing volunteers at the projects and overseeing their activities where appropriate.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • At least 3 years project management experience within a non-profit environment Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Fluency in English with fluency in Dutch an advantage
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to produce analytical reports
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and management within the non-profit environment Ability to travel to the projects in other provinces
  • Drivers licence with own transport
